This is such a lovely story, not only about allowing our work to be seen, but also about realizing our fears are often unfounded. 🫶🫶🫶

Thank you! I’ve been learning that in various ways lately, which reminded me of this particular moment.

I love this

Thank you! This one actually didn’t take as long to write and edit as they usually do.

Because it was real … just let them flow …

It was actually for an education course. Multicultural something or other. She even allowed us to be creative with our final project.

My "path" through schooling looks like a drunk street striper following an ant.... I digress.

Psychology was the minor I chose. Should have been my major, if I'm being honest...interest and not "skill" wise. Not like I use the graphic design one much or the elementary education but oh man, the psychology minor! Woooo

My best friend got her bachelors in elementary ed so I actually tagged along to some of their events and stuff. They had so many more projects than I did. When I started working in community mental health, I had to work with schools a lot so being around her and her classmates and absorbing a lot of their theory and discourse proved way more helpful than I thought it’d be. I now know so much about IEPs, 504’s, special education tiers, ADA laws, and various types of accommodations partially from her but partially out of necessity to serve my kiddos.

Sweet, thoughtful... learning for the good of others is growth

You got my attention...and I want more about this "writer."

Would I be weird to say I sort of had this happen but with my art in college? The professor allowed us creative freedom with the article we had to read in class. I can't remember the exact article or the in-class assignment but, I had CRAZY ideas. One woman who actually took the time to talk to me had seem my work before and said I should be the one to draw out the idea and hand write the "written" part, which also ended up being a poetic piece I threw together using their input to answer the prompts. They watched me sketch it out, color it and write the poetry. The woman just smiled while the others were glad she suggested I take over the "visual" presentation.

It’s amazing how impactful even a small amount of recognition is!

I wish I’d taken more creative classes when I was in college 🙃 I got side tracked with other interests I thought were more practical to pursue (cue me oscillating through multiple majors before they finally made me declare at the end of sophomore year😂). I did briefly double major in creative writing but I ran out of time to finish both so I dropped it to focus solely on psych.
